Mike & Kristin were such a wonderful couple to work with. Fun-loving, energetic, and just so very happy together. It was a beautiful wedding at the Cascade Falls in Jackson MI, a truly beautiful and unique setting. Put it all together and you have the makings for some beautiful images.

Looking back at 2012, we had a ton of extreme weather weddings, and this one was no exception. The heat index hovered around 98 degrees fahrenheit, with crazy humidity, literally we were sticking to the pavement in the park, and my tripod was sinking into the asphalt… To say that this couple were good sports, is an understatement. But, no matter how good of sport anyone may be, there are times when you can only do so much without being hindered by the elements. After some very quick and creative bridal party shots, it was inevitable that everyone involved (no matter how good of sports) were ready to seek refuge in some air conditioning… This is a perfect example of how a post couple session can come in handy. It allowed us to focus on the bare necessities, so that the bride and groom could sneak a much needed break. Most importantly, it kept their day enjoyable, as it should be. As an added bonus, we were able to meet up again after the honeymoon, at a time when it wasn’t so crazy hot, and when we could take as much time as was needed to capture all of the fun creative stuff that we knew was important to our couple, but that they would have missed out on without the extra session. WIN. WIN. WIN.

Chick Days. Week 4 & 5.

Holy cow! These girls are growing fast! The gals are starting to look like the miniature teen chicken versions of themselves. The girls also, have officially outgrown there second brooder box, and have taken over Max’s old Dog Crate. I know that it sounds small, but in remember that in his heyday Max weighed 180 lbs. and still had lots of room in this giant pet cage condo. They LOVE the new digs. It seems to be serving as a bit of a playground for them too, as being that the cage has so many bars we were able to add lots of multi-level roosting spots.

Other news, Harper (our Doberman) has now met the girls. After some guidance, and the “Those are not your chickens” talk, she seems to be doing pretty good with them. However she has developed a habit of licking her lips whenever they are around each other for very long… We may have some work ahead of us.

We are so looking forward to shooting this wedding. Joe & Chris are awesome. Joe is an airplane mechanic wanted to do something to incorporate airplanes into the engagement session so we headed to WACO Classic Aircraft of Battle Creek, MI. It was a blast! These planes are seriously amazing! From there we headed to Crane Park in Kalamazoo for some shots in a more natural setting. Hard to believe, in just under 2 months we’ll be shooting Joe & Chris’ wedding…. Can’t Wait!

Chick Days. Week 3.

The girls are going through some major changes this week, lots of little feathers are poking though, and their soft chick fuzz is starting to loosen up and fly away much like a dandelion going to seed. These chicks are now going through their awkward tween phase. You’ll notice that this week there are more pictures of Gladys than the other girls. She was the only one really working it for the camera and ready for her close up, the other girls were all busy fluttering about and enjoying their time out of the brooder box. Enjoy!

Lovely. Lovely. Lovely. We absolutely adored working with Ashley & Charlie. Such true and wonderful people. I love it when people wear there hearts on their sleeve, when they do, you can actually see and feel the connection they share, and that is pure magic. Such was the case with Ashley & Charlie. Chick Days. Week 2.

What a difference a week makes. The girls really went through a growth spurt this week. Little tail feathers started to pop through, wings and feathers started to develop, and on top of all of that good stuff, the girls learned to roost…. All in a week. It’s funny how certain instincts are embedded in these little gals, right from the start. You could almost see it in Gladys’ eyes the first time we set Daisy May on the roosting bar… She went from scared to jealous all in about 3 seconds. Daisy is our resident example chick, due to her all around good nature and attitude. Have anything you wanna show the other girls, and it becomes, ” Attention ladies: Daisy May will be giving a roosting workshop in 2 minutes, anyone who wants to see should report to the roosting bar”.

OK so I’m a dork…. but this is big fun folks!

You know that funny deja-vu feeling, when you meet someone, and it feels like you have known them and been friends with them for years. That is how it was with John & Jenny. They are amazing. We are going to break this blog post into 2 segments as there were not only so many fun and fabulous moments, but John’s mom owns All Grand Events, and she pulled out all of the stops and really made some magic happen with the details and decor. Love this wedding! Love this couple! Check it out!

Had the pleasure of doing a destination engagement in the Windy City last summer with this wonderful couple. It was a great day. We started the fun off at Navy Pier then we made our way to the wonderful art and architecture at Millennium Park. Love days like this with couples like John & Jenny.
